Pricing

Due to seasonal pricing and availability of accommodations, the below pricing schedule is our best estimate. The final amount will be confirmed with you in writing, before a 30% deposit is charged. 

*CDW stands for Collision Damage Waiver: It’s an optional extra product we offer to reduce the liability for your rental bike in the event of damage. When you rent a motorcycle from us, you can choose your own level of CDW. Contact us for full pricing. 

**Any additional member(s) who are traveling with you, whom prefers to travel onboard the support vehicle instead of riding on pillion seat and stays with you in the same room overnight.

(Eg. Your children, partner who doesn’t want to sit pillion seat on bike)

About the tour

Our 10-day North Island Discovery Guided Motorcycle Tour(with a support vehicle) is designed to be relaxing, non-physically demanding and easy to ride - and most importantly, family-orientated. 

Our standard itinerary leaves plenty flexibility and free time gaps for the group to explore the locality & activities at our own paces. We understand you are here for a motorcycle trip first and foremost, so we don’t cram in too many mandatory non-bike activities throughout the day.

Are you having to choose between an ordinary family road trip in NZ, or a New Zealand motorcycle tour on your own? Why not both! For our guided tours, our support vehicle will follow the group and be able to carry your family and your luggage, while you enjoy total freedom out there on a bike! 

With us, you can choose family AND bike at the same time.

Not only will we follow the bike group behind on a support truck(Toyota Landcruiser), we’ll act like your personal butler and cater to your every need along the way, we’ll also be proactively arranging things for you in the background so you can relax and simply enjoy your holiday! Saves you time and frustration.

We didn’t come up with tour routes by just staring at a map - we’ve rode around the entire country and we know which route offers the best motorcycling experience. North Island offers some of the most exciting and cinematic roads for motorcycling that we can’t wait to show you. When the “wow” hits your mind, you’ll be glad that you decided to take this trip instead of B-lining to Wellington for the ferry and skipping all the beauty along the way! 

Your tour guide is also very passionate about cooking and photography - we’ll be very glad to take memorable photos for you and host BBQs for the group, if we wish. 

Who can participate?

We do not enforce a hard-requirement for either age or experience to travel with us. The tour is moderately paced and the roads we’ll be traveling are in good condition. We welcome riders from all backgrounds & experiences. 

Note that there may be restrictions from third party bike rental providers about your age and riding experience. At AVS Motorcycle Rental, we do not impose such restrictions, a valid license and a safe attitude toward riding is enough. Riders under 21 years old are totally welcome to hire our bikes - as once young travelers ourselves we were, we understand the pain of not being able to hire bikes/cars due to age limit, so we don’t impose it. 

What bike will I ride?

It’s up to you! Just tell us what bikes you are looking for and we’ll find it for you. 

We are a licensed motorcycle rental provider and we have a select fleet of mid & large size BMW GS for hire at very competitive rates and flexible liability options(🔗Price List) however, if other bikes suit your taste better, you do not have to rent from us! We can happily source an ideal rental bike for you from another rental company, there won’t be an extra charge for this from our end and we can forward you the invoice from the third party provider. 

The routes we’ll be taking are exclusively paved, good condition roads, there won’t be any off-road or extra risky routes. So any style of motorcycle you prefer will work just fine.

What’s the group size & riding style?

This will be a small, low-risk, private, non-physically demanding, relaxing, family friendly tour, we will follow the speed limit, you don’t have to stay close to other riders and stay in a formation(although you absolutely can!). The accommodations will be pre-booked and as long as we can all arrive at the hotel by the end of the day, you can stop anywhere, anytime, as frequently as you like! It’s your holiday and our job is to maximize your experience as much as possible, without undermining other guests’ experience.  

We’ll together discuss the plan for the next day in the evening, and we’ll leave the next day at the same time. The riding distance is finely portioned and there are extra backroads around the accommodation area that can fill your itch if you feel like the day’s riding isn’t over yet. 

We’ll be riding on average ~220 km a day across the span of 10 days, with the longest day being 300 km/4.5 hours of riding time, and two, shorter semi-resting days that are under 100 km. 

The group size will be 2 to 10 bikes, our support truck can carry three extra guests comfortably(potentially 4 if there are children) so you can bring your wife and kid on this trip! Your tour guide will take good care of them while you enjoy your ride, we’ll be following you from behind and meet up any time at attractions or scenic spots for pictures etc. 

Accommodations

All accommodations are included with the tour price. 

We prefer to book holiday homes along our route(a standalone house fully to ourselves) for a family friendly atmosphere and decent amount of privacy and reduced cost per person. Otherwise, we’ll book the most suitable 3 or 4 star hotel rooms or cabins. Due to availability of accommodations during peak season and/or rural areas, we may adjust our tour routes accordingly. 

We’ll book individual rooms for families, and solo travelers will be sharing accommodation. If you prefer more privacy as a solo guest, we can custom quote you a price for your own private rooms along the way.  

Support truck

The mighty support truck is a modern classic Toyota Landcruiser 70 series Wagon(LC76) with 4 seats. Onboard we’ll carry tools, medic kit, hot water, tea, coffee and chilly bins, small snacks, etc. We’ll also be able to carry extra luggage and groceries for the group. We may bring in a second support car with 3 more passenger seats to join our tour if there is higher demand for on-car passengers. 

Weather

We’ll monitor the weather closely and possibly make small adjustments to the routes if there’s a clear path to avoid any weather conditions. Unless there’s a hazardous weather condition, in which case we’ll discuss our options and adjust the tour accordingly, otherwise we’ll proceed with the tour as planned.

• Fuel - we can give you fuel discount cards if possible. 
• Bike hire - you can hire from us, or we’ll source a bike from other shops for you
• Food & groceries* 

* Guests will pay for their own meals. Breakfasts may be included by hotels. For groceries & meals we purchased on behalf of the group, we’ll divide the cost by the number of guests at the end of the trip and collect it individually. 

Booking, Pricing & Deposits

Our tour will proceed if there are four or more bikes with deposits paid. Due to seasonal accommodation availability and pricing changes, the advertised price is our best estimate, we will quote you a final amount in writing before taking your deposit payment. The amount we quote you will be final and covers all the included services previously mentioned - no surprise charges! 

A deposit of 30% of the booking total is required to reserve your seat, we use this to make accommodation reservations. 

Cancellation, Sickness & Other disruptions

If you feel unwell during the tour, we’ll proceed with the tour with other guests, and you can rejoin us when you get better, we may be able to refund some accommodation costs if any can be recovered by canceling with them. 

If we choose to cancel the tour due to not enough guests, or safety reasons, we’ll refund your deposits in full(less any processing fees charged by payment provider)

We can refund your deposit in full(less any processing fees charged by payment provider) if the request is made in writing 30 days prior to the start date of the tour. If the request is made within 30 days of the start date of the tour, we will do our best to refund your deposit by checking to see if there are any refundable accommodations rooms we booked specifically for you, otherwise, no deposit refund can be made. 

Canceling a rental motorcycle booking is a separate matter: Refer to the rental agreement which you signed, either with us or a third party provider. 

If there’s a mechanical failure, either due to damage or unforeseen breakdown, we’ll do the best we can to help you get back on the road safely, as soon as possible, if the bike was rented from us(AVS Motorcycle Rental), we’ll cover the repair & rescue costs upfront(unless the hirer is responsible for the damage, refer to our bike rental agreement), however, if the bike was rented from a third party, although we’ll do our best to help you to communicate with the third party rental provider, we are not responsible for any cost related to damage or breakdown or towing for a third party bike, and there might be certain restrictions on what repair we can do for you on the spot if the bike isn’t from us. 

Considerations and Behavior

Safety is always the number one priority, we will observe the speed limit throughout the tour, we reserve the right to remove riders from the tour if he/she poses significant danger to others or him or herself, or behaves inappropriately or inconsiderately to other guests, no refund will be given if we exclude any guests due to such concerns. 

We may bring our guests to vineyards for wine tasting experiences during the tour, however, it’s your responsibility to refer and follow the legal alcohol consumption limit in New Zealand. The tour will proceed without you if we have you leave you behind, and you can rejoin us later. 

You must wear your helmet at all times when riding a motorcycle on public roads in New Zealand. Other safety gear(jackets, pants, boots, gloves) are strongly recommended however not mandatory. 

We discourage people from trying out each other's rental bikes, as it may violate certain rental agreement clauses and bring in liability problems.
